Developments in dental technology have led to the use of lasers for numerous procedures, or laser dentistry. Lasers have provided us with several benefits, including pinpoint accuracy and reduced bleeding, swelling, and pain. At Beavercreek Dental, we are proud to offer Solea for your laser dental procedures.
What is Solea?
Solea is the latest in laser dentistry technology. It is a CO2 laser dental system. It is currently the number one selling soft tissue osseous tissue laser. Developed by Convergent Dental, the Solea system offers the ability to perform a variety of dental procedures with a single setting. It has a unique wavelength and is computer controlled. The laser is virtually noiseless and eliminates the need for anesthesia. It is precise, fast, and has greatly improved our efficiency in performing your necessary procedures. We are highly trained by the company in the use of the technology.
With Solea, we can cut any tissue, soft or bone, with a single setting, thanks to its new software. There are numerous benefits to the use of this technology:
The use of the laser makes procedures much more comfortable. Most of the laser dental procedures we perform on both soft tissues and bone do not require anesthesia. This means that you can go right back to work or go to lunch, without the numb feeling that used to accompany your procedures in the past.
There is minimal bleeding during your procedures. This is because the laser cauterizes wounds as it cuts.
Solea is much less invasive than traditional hand pieces. This means that your recovery time following your procedure is significantly shorter.
Solea is faster and quieter than other treatment methods. The laser operates on a 9.3 µm wavelength, which makes it faster and quieter than any other laser. This provides a major benefit to patients who experience anxiety during dental work. The speed of the laser also allows us to perform multiple procedures in a single visit, reducing the total number of visits you require.
Precision. The Solea laser uses carbon dioxide (CO2). In the preparation of the teeth, it vaporizes enamel, rather than chipping at it away in pieces. The precision offered by the Solea laser means less tissue disruption, as well as less enamel eruption (which helps to preserve more of your natural enamel).
What procedures are done with laser dentistry?
Laser dentistry can be used to perform a variety of different procedures:
Periodontal treatments. If swollen gum tissue prevents us from being able to completely perform scaling and root planing, the laser can remove the infected gum tissue, providing necessary access.
Crown lengthening (removing excess gum tissue that makes your teeth appear small).
Tooth decay. Lasers can clean decay from cavities, preparing the tooth for a filling.
Preparing teeth for restorations—veneers, crowns. This procedure involves the removal of some of the enamel from the affected teeth.
Removal of lesions. The laser can cleanly remove a section of a lesion for a soft tissue biopsy.
Sealing tubules that are contributing to sensitive teeth.
