Dental Implants

Dental Implant at Beavercreek Dental Your teeth are an essential feature of your mouth. They allow you to eat properly and digest your food. They control your airflow and help you to make certain sounds when you speak. They provide you with a beautiful smile. The roots of your teeth even have an important job. They help to keep your jawbone strong and healthy. When you lose your teeth, even just a single tooth, all of these functions are affected. Missing teeth need to be replaced. At Beavercreek Dental, we offer dental implants.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are the most recent option available for replacing missing teeth. They consist of three main components:
•  The implant. The implant itself is a small titanium rod that is surgically inserted into your jawbone. As you heal, your jawbone fuses to the implant, turning it into a stable root that provides support for your replacement teeth.
•  The abutment. The abutment is the connector, which is attached to the top of the implant.
•  The crown(s). These are your replacement teeth. They are usually made out of ceramic, a material that can mimic the color and light reflecting properties of your natural tooth enamel.

Types of Dental Implants

Dental implants are quite versatile and can be used to replace any number of missing teeth. To fit your specific needs, there are several different types of implants:
•  Single tooth implants. These implants are designed to replace single missing teeth. One implant is placed in the space and capped with a single crown.
•  Multiple teeth implants, or implant supported bridges. Multiple teeth implants replace several missing teeth in the same area, replacing traditionally fixed bridges or partial dentures. They are supported by one or more implants, depending upon the number of teeth that are missing.
•  Implant supported dentures. When you are missing all teeth on either arch (or both), you may be a candidate for implant supported dentures. A full arch of replacement teeth is supported by six to eight implants.
•  All-on-4® Treatment Concept. When you have experienced bone loss, and might otherwise be considered ineligible for regular dental implants, the All-on-4® Treatment Concept eliminates the need for a bone graft. Your implant supported dentures are held in place by four strategically placed implants.

How Are Dental Implants Placed?

Implants require a surgical procedure. After a local anesthetic, incisions are made in the gums. Holes are then drilled into your jawbone, and the implants placed. Your gums are then stitched closed, and you are provided with temporary teeth, which will help to restore some of the functions of your mouth while you heal.

Healing takes anywhere from just a few weeks to several months (depending on the number of implants). During this time, we carefully monitor your progress. When you have fully healed, the abutments are set in place and impressions taken. Your final teeth are designed and fabricated and then set into place on the implants.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants offer several benefits:
•  They are permanent. Your teeth are secured into place, and will not slide around or fall out.
•  They are comfortable. Your teeth are supported by the implants, rather than your gums or adjacent teeth.
•  Your healthy teeth remain completely intact.
•  Your ability to eat is restored, as is your digestion.
•  Your speech improves.
•  Your oral health improves.
•  Implants help to maintain the strength and integrity of your jawbone.
